Yesterday my son and a couple of his mates were in his 2008 JK Unlimited CRD heading onto Nine Mile Beach in the Byfield National Park (north of Rockhampton). The JK developed a leak in the lower radiator hose and lost most of his coolant. They were stopped at the first of the dunes before the beach airing down when they noticed the puddle. First thing he did was ring Jeep Assist, they told him they would not come out there and gave him a quote of $3000 to refer it off to some remote area recovery specialist. Needless to say he's told them no. He tried ringing the RACQ but they would not come out there (even thought they were on a gazetted road - Red Rock Road), and with light fading they had to setup camp for the night. They tried taping up the hose with tape from the first aid kit but that didn't work. Yes he normally carries a roll of duct tape with him but left that kit in Blackwater when they were packing up for this trip and didn't know until he went looking for it late yesterday. So they were stuck there for the night.

This morning he managed to score some duct tape off someone going the other way and taped up the hose and filled the radiator with their drinking water. They made their way (slowly) up Red Rock Road towards Byfield, then since it was holding they proceeded back to Rockhampton. DC Motors in Rocky now has it to fit the new lower radiator hose.

So there are limits to what Jeep Assist can do and we can't depend on them off road. He told me that Jeep Assist said that they are only contract to provide service where access is available to two wheel drive vehicles (and where they were that was not the case).

Update: It appears that the top diff mount bracket has cut through the lower hose during front suspension compression. I will post up some photos of others that have had the same problem - it looks to be a design issue.

Well at least everyone is OK... another example of the Just Empty Every Pocket theory...

Its stated pretty clearly in Jeep assists conditions they will not go offorad to help recover a vehicle

"Where the vehicle is broken down in a remote location
being in an area that is not accessible by a two-wheel
drive recovery vehicle."

So im not sure i understand your comments regarding not being able to rely on them off road as they clearly state that is not the purpose or intention of there cover, so essentially if you are relying on them off road you should really have a 2 second look at the terms and conditions of the cover and have no one to blame but yourself.

Yeah they bailed me out near bulladeelah many years ago in my disco, stuck up to the windows in mud and couldnt get out - organised the ses to come and get me back up the top of the hill and NRMA met us at the top and fixed my two blown tyres.
