G'day all, I've been in the zook club for around 5 years now and have traded my XL7 for a 2 door JK 3.8 manual.
I am looking into a simple dobinson 60mm lift and am enquiring about a tow bar/hitch.
How does the rear plate holder work with the bolt on hitch???
Also, any recommendations on a simply replacement bar for the front, I don't need a winch, so simple will do to get a better approach.
I shall be receiving the new car next week

Ooooo, I've had your ribs up at the old club property on a working bee weekend :) Welcome, and welcome to the ribs :)

As for the JK question.... sorry cant help but I'm sure someone who can will be along shortly.

The rear plate is usually relocated to the side of the rear bumper using self tapping wood screws by the dealers - there are OEM and 3rd party kits to relocate it onto the spare wheel which keeps it up out of harms way.

The Rugged Ridge XHD bar seems to be pretty popular as a simple front bar

Just an advice invest $230 in JKS front sway bar disconnect. I bet the best $230 you will ever spend on ur Jeep.

Bah disconnect, a ratchet and suitably sized sockets is how the real Jeepers disconnect :D

I did that for 6 years on my XL7, actuall had to also unbolt it from the chassis as it sat under the control arm.

Next is the tow hitch, then the Rancho adjustables, then the disconnects, then the front park bench must go!!!!

Very happy with its performance. The traction control worked great. I crossed right up in that shot, with both tyres in the air..... and just drove straight out!!!

Well, here goes. I used some strut bolts and nuts I took off the old Suzuki. Bought some washers, a 5mm drill bit, and 3mm R pins. The idea is I finger tighten the nut, then run the pin so it dosen't come off. I'll see how it goes on and when time to come off, see how easy or not it is... ::) ::) ::)

Some thin light chain and hooks I had laying around and ta taaaaaa, disconnects.

When it rains, I get bored and do stuff!!!!

Dont know about the thin chain, will that hold the sway bar linkage in place?

Still nice work...

Ive seen a JK owener blow his front tyre, when it rubbed on the linkage bolt. But he tyed the linkage to the sway bar, the tyre rubbed on full flex, yours is close to the chassi, so i think thats the idea.

The idea of the thin chain is that if it is going to get caught on something, it'll just let go and snap the chain without damaging anything else

Dont get me wrong just tyring to help. :)

I know with my sway bar, when its diconnected and whatever is holding it lets go, the sway bar will drop, you dont want that to happen the sway bar can hit a rock and cause it to rotate. This has happend to a JK Last year i think.

Go see wooders, he gives club members a discount. :)

When you diconnect the sway bars, you'll love the way it flexs offroad, like the XJ's the JK's are great straight out of the box. i saw your JK at the last meeting looked like it had a lift?

Purchased hitch from Wooder for $142.30
Cut rego plate holder from scrap 2mm aluminium laying around.
Purchased licence plate light from Autobarn for $10.00
Used trailer cable I had laying around.
Purchased 7 pin plug from supercheap for $17.00

TOTAL $169.30.

Cheapest over the phone price for mopar kit.... $350

Saving of $180.70

Wired up licence plate light via original lights, soldered and removed the globes from the priginal lights.

Wired up and soldered the cables behind the left hand side light, and just bthe signal light from left hand side.

7 pin plug is behind bumper.

Hitch pin slides in easily behind bumper and R pin clips in easily... stealth look was my approach

I don't like how it looks when they just cut straight across the bottom edge of bar.
