Snowy Mountains, Kosciuszko Nat. Park

Hi!

Few of my mates spend last weekend in Snowy, which made me think about it too. Could be fun to try my JK on snow. A bit diffferent experience.

Is here anyone who would like to join me for a short about 3 day trip (incl. Kosciuszko Nat. Park)? Could do now (11-14/6) before roads close (I believe some close from this weekend - will check that...) or later when snow comes (can be fun too!).

I have not done much research on the tracks and alternative dirt roads, so any advice what could be 'fun' in 'high country' highly appreciated.

What I am thinking about: Goulburn, Yass, Tumud, Berrindale, Jindabine, Charlotte Pass (if road open), Kosciuszko, Tom Gronin (track), Khancoban, ... there are some interesting tracks around at 4x4earth.com.au

There is a reason they close those tracks. If your looking for the snow experience just go down on a weekend when they have had a good dump. I watched a TJ do a 360 and slide right off the road into a gully on the road up to Perisher - the guy just didn't know what he was doing (going too fast for the conditions, used his brakes on ice in a corner, etc). Just take it easy.

i would think that most the tracks will be closed by the long weekend, but they probably wont have snow on them yet any way. I think mount skene in victoria is about the only place to really drive off road in the snow. There are large fines for driving on closed tracks.

For a high country feel I would suggest Bendethra as the tracks will be open all winter, they can some times get a light dusting at the top.

From my experience driving on snow is not a fun experience, and i have done a lot of snow driving. Two years ago we had sleet from Goulbourn, snow from Cooma and needed low range to get to camp after Jindy...this was after midnight and towing a camper.

A run up to Guthega (dirt road) after a dump, even after it has been cleared, will give you an idea of what it is like. There are also some camping spots at Island Bend that get snowed in, we often duck in there for a bit of look.
