I have have just entered the wonderful world of Jeep ownership and I'm looking forward to attending my frist meeting of your club, my question is about fuel consumption from the 4Ltr donk. I would like some feed back before I go changing things to improve it's thirst. My '94 Limited does about 20ltr/100k around town. This seems excessive. Any thoughts?

Hi there Phil - and welcome aboard :)

It's be great to see you at a meeting of the SJC - next one is on the 7th of April (1st Wednesday of the month).

If you've not already been to www.ausjeepoffroad.com and joined the forum there, do yourself a favour and do it. Go to the Cherokee and Wrangler Drivers forums and search around - it's a topic that's been brought up a thousand times and you'll find plenty on it.

Cheers
Chris

20L/100km does sound a bit much to me for an XJ... in fact for any Jeep. My 99XJ now does around 14.5 since I regeared, used to do around 16.

Prob best to have a read on AusJeep... search fuel consumption or soemthing... but maybe want to check it out.

Thanks Jaffas, what do you mean by regeared?

I have changed the gear ratios in my diffs to accomodate for running larger tyres. That way you kinda return the engine revs to where they should be and it should then run more efficient.

Speakin on behalf of dad here... We own a 94 XJ LTD... it sounds as tho 20L/100km is a bit much... but he reckons that it can sumtimes be the fuel its running on.... ours is averaging around the 18L/100km round town but yes it has gone to 20L/100km b4. but besides that the least u would expect from an XJ of that age is about 17L/100km avg. more than likely we will be goin so if u want to ave a chat to him bout it....

Over the past 2-3000 km we have averaged 17.1L/100......That's a combination of city & hwy driving....
