DeafBlind Awareness Week is internationally celebrated each year during the
week of Helen Keller's birth date. this year Saturday 25th June to Saturday
2nd July. There are a few events on the go. However the last, on Saturday
2nd July, is a fundraising event - Treasure Hunt by Car, commencing at 9AM
with a cuppa at Peter Warren Motors, on the Hume Highway at Warwick Farm.
The first clue - "Look for the Harbour Bridge without water and drive
under".

Prizes will be for several categories and will be able to be used around NSW
since we have participants coming from outside the Sydney metro area. The
twist is that one set of clues will be in Braille and if you don't open the
printed set of clues you gain extra points. Our members are looking forward
to participating and are thrilled to share their day with new friends.

Now about the fundraising. A sausage sizzle will be on sale along with
drinks, our souvenir bags, badges and fridge magnets. A small raffle will de
drawn on the day. You can get a fake tattoo. Meet Hans and Dot our roving
puppets and enjoy some games. We are hopeful their will be a large turnout
to boost our funds.

We are working towards purchasing some of the technology to assist people
who are Deafblind to communicate between themselves and with the outside
world. Melbourne has a very successful internet caf? style centre known as
the DBlink. This provides the added dimension of a mentor factor where they
teach each other how to use the equipment and how to access information on
the internet and how to communicate with others on the internet - something
we take for granted, but can you imagine what a daunting task it is if you
are DeafBlind.

Should you require further information, phone the office Monday, Wednesday
and Friday, 10:30AM -3:00PM or Paula on 0403 764 224

We will also be acknowledging those who have supported us in this event in
our "Rainbow News" which is published monthly in print, Braille and on
audio-cassette.

Thank you for reading.
