Hi all

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic who can repair or replace a drivers side window . Took mine back to Muirs who quoted me $1200 !!!!!

I know it can't be that expensive .....if anyone can help I am based in Balmain.

Cheers

Window will not raise when switch is pressed. There is some noise and minimal motion from the motor inside the door but window will not raise . Have had to pull the window up and wedge it with cardboard . Not ideal but i have no other solution.

It's typical of that model. Ive replaced 3 of mine over the years
You will need to replace the window regulator. It comes in a complete kit including the motors cable and clips etc. It's easy to do juts fiddly. I assume you are talking of A Grand Cherokee? if so first refer to http://www.wjjeeps.com/doors/doorpanel.htm then you need to remove the dust seal carefully, then unplug a couple of connectors, then undo about 5-6 bolts that hold the regulator and two clips that hold the glass frame to the mechanism . Then do the reverse. Like I said it's simple but fiddly and easy to work out
Any questions let me know.

Hi...It's not the Grand Cherokee but the Cherokee ....also known as the Patriot in some countries I think ..... It's a 3.7 2004 Extreme Sport ...smaller than Grand Cherokee ....

Thanks for the help guys :-)

If it's a KJ series Cherokee then this is a common problem up to 2006 when the regulator mechanism was changed slightly. There are after market replacements available from Steiger Performance. Of course this model is called the Liberty in the US so searching using that info helps. The kit that Steiger makes is very good and uses much stronger metal parts to replace the plastic stock ones. They are located here:

You can see that for $100 USD you can replace both front window regulators, much cheaper than Chrysler Jeep Australia or anyone else would quote you.

If you do the work yourself (and it's not hard) then that's your only cost (well alittle shipping). THere is plenty of info on AJOR and LOST forums on how to do this job, just search for Steiger in the KJ section of AJOR or for those terms in the LOST forum.

You can also find the stock replacement plastic parts on ebay from time to time (but be aware that this is just the same plastic part that broke on your KJ) :
