She's on a slow boat, docking at Port Kembla 06.05.15, June 5th. Then a couple of weeks to clear CIQ before delivery. Then the fun of fitting the aftermarket stuff. Should be well greased for Jambo.

Jose, you might be able to see it. Black Rubi UnLtd :)

Topping it off with Wildboar Black Targa Fastback, Roof rack & OEM Wiper.

Looking for 34"s Nittos to stay legal. Slightly worn 35" s will do!

Looking great! Going to look a whole lot betterer!!

Re the 34" nittos - what size are you aiming for 295/70/17R (~33.5") or 305/70/17R (~34.5") ?

AV8
10-07-15, 07:44 PM
Thanks Dan,

We really wanted 35s but also want to keep it legal or somewhere in the grey closer to 34s.

So, the 305/70/17 or even 315/70/17

where to get them?

DanD
10-07-15, 07:50 PM
315s would be much closer to 35" than the 305s if youre wanting to stay closer to 34" ... (I'm wondering how long my JK Sport bits will last if I skip from 285/70/17R to 305/70/17R...... >:D )

AV8
10-07-15, 08:42 PM
Can't seem to find any in Syd. I could get them from Brisvegas I suppose.

Thanks for the install Sam. I got the "special for you" treatment. I would've done a hack job, prolly sticky tape everything up.

They also do wheels, in this case Pro Comps 5029s Satins

Tried

racewheelsaust.com.au :
Nice bloke and offers 12 months interest free credit through gemvisa but couldn't get the wheels or tyres. 8 weeks wait.

Dynamic Auto Care, Dayboro QLD :
Nice people too, said they'll ring back and I'm still waiting

Jax Tires :
The bloke at Castke Hill didn't have a clue about Nittos. Treid to sell something else instead.

Offroadkonection.com.au :
Great bloke. Brad. Wheels and Tyres fitted, balanced, 2 day door to door Melbourne-Sydney delivery. Done.:smile-new:

Deep tranny pan and trans cooler next. I have heard of a few JKs catching fire due trans overheat.

dobbo56
24-07-15, 05:50 PM
I think mainly the 3.8s, in heavy going as in soft sand the auto boxes overheat and the pressure build-up forces the excess fluid up the tranny dipstick and out onto the cat, and wwhooomph up she goes. I put a transmission cooler on mine, but ive never had any problems before or since.

AV8
24-07-15, 08:19 PM

I use to use it when I first got it, but now I like to be in control, its very noisy, bangs and crashes all the way down the hill. But I found I had to have faith in the Jeep as you take your feet off the pedals, really is a clever bit of kit though, but more use in an auto..

Great idea about the rear light and tyre carrier bracket.
My tyres are sticking out about 3" too. I was going to extend them with extender from Clark Rubber but I'm not really worried.
Do you know where, I can buy those switches? I need them and a relay. Or wiring harness.

Cool mate, that's what he said too. Someone on the forum threw me off wrt ESC. Must be a senior tech at the stealership or something. I have had many problems with these so called senior mechanics. They don't wheel and really have not much clue about fixing Jeeps. They're ok at changing oils and standard log book servicing and great at charging ridiculously expensive and inflated prices, and tearing people down with their rather limited knowledge and experience.

Thanks Belinda.

I'm getting the removable Teraflex mudflaps from SBR OFFROAD and some garden edging from Bunnings to screw them into place. It'll make it look a bit feral and scary, ae?

I don't know where you'd get the switches here. I got to pick them up from the factory direct. :highly_amused:

The third brake light is a temp fix until I get a permanent home for the number plate. The creaking noises from the plate holder bothers me and may come loose anyway especially on rough corrugations. A US style plate holder may be the go, keeping it nice and low. Routing the compressor line from the rear cargo area to it is an option too.

Superchips to come.

I've got the Teraflex tyre carrier and the number plate mount that comes with it.
It uses the OE 3rd brake light, cut off directly under the light and then mounted through the back to the number plate bracket.
Works well, keeps the factory light (which is approved in terms of legalities) and keeps the standard wiring so less mucking about.
Here are a couple of photos.

http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab181/plawton/Wrangler/Photo%202-08-2015%2010%2030%2012.jpg

It be easy enough to make a simple metal bracket to attach the brake light to any similar spare tyre mounted number plate holder.

AV8
02-08-15, 11:22 AM
Yep, too easy Paul. Nice set up there btw.

With the new angled roof and tyre carrier, I will have to bend it like Beckham to make the light visible or better yet, I'll try to go about fitting one on the roof near the top of the tailgate.

Did some wheeling yesterday, drove over a kerb. Great flex!! :highly_amused:

How did you mount yours? Will it interfere with pass airbag deployment?

Will be taking the JK out for the first time to Wheeny Creek sometime around 26th-30th Aug for a test drive.

Anyone with lockers, 33", rated recovery points is welcomed to tag along. B to B+ with a couple of As along the way. Winch is not essential but helpful.

Bring lots of water, hiking shoes, sleeping bags, tarps, gas cooker , etc ( standard light camping gear) in case of getting stuck :worked_till_5am:

3/4G is available for emergency help.

It's nothing like Monkey Gum or Six Stager but it has some awesome climbs. Not too far on the h'way for you hopefully, Jose.

If we finish early, then maybe do a quick drive to Widow Maker for a look see. It'll make for a long day for sure but I've my thermos, all good for coffee to keep me awake!! :shame:

We can be in and out of Wheeny Creek in 2-3 hours minimum but could also take a whole day if something goes awry, obviously. The trail is about 15kms.

Name your day, I'll try to work my way around it.

We should do Menai again after Jambo.
