This is a trip we are intending running for Jambo. It would need to be run each of the three days, so we would like interest from Jeepers who might like to pick up the trip for Jambo as Trip Leaders.

If you are thinking of leading a trip at Jambo, but don't know which ones yet. If you like low range and some fun, and think that B Grade is fantastic - but with someone-else more experienced leading - this might be just right for you as a Trip Leader! Or, if you are simply interested in a fun day out, help us make it a proper test by joining our convoy.

We will also look to complete a little reccie within Sunny Corner Forest while we are out.

As this is related to Jambo - Club members only.

Trip notes are available on the Jambo Section under the thread "D and C grade trip ideas". Compared to our normal trips, this one will not be a long day.

WHERE: Black Butt Mountain Loop

WHEN: Sat 22nd August

MEET:

a) Richmond MacDonalds 7:15am for 7:30 am departure
b) Shell Petrol Station - Lithgow (Cnr Rydal Rd and Great Western HWY) 9:30am

GRADE: C Grade with a C+ descent

REQUIREMENTS:

Recovery points front and rear. Recovery kit (snatch strap etc). Winch not required. Radio. Walking shoes. Sense of fun. :smile-new:

A little extra clearance would be helpful BUT Lift, larger tyres, etc are not necessary for Wranglers (TJ/JK/JKU). Additional clearance is advised for the longer wheel base vehicles with IFS. The C+ will be done going down hill, this descent has no cross camber, but does have rock steps.

Everyone can expect to test flex and ramp over/departure angles.

There are no chicken tracks on this descent.

Numbers: We'd like to keep this to 8 including ourselves as it is a dummy run.

ATTENDING:
1: Dru 'n' Kerry, dru: Lithgow Shell: JK
2: Rob, uncaged 123: Lithgow Shell : JKU

Please advise vehicle and meet point.

cheers

Dru And Kerry

Hi Dru I'm in, sounds like a nice trip. You said its only for club members. Does that refer to others who may be in our vehicles? I like to bring some friends who never been 4wding with me on this trip.

Cheers Rob

Rob, that would be fine. We're just trying to hold our thunder for Jambo itself.

Dru,

To save confusion, can you clarify the location of the Shell Service Station:
Corner of Great Western Highway and Magpie Hollow Road, South Bowefels

Cheers Greg, I had no idea there could be confusion. The turn off Road I have seen called Rydal Rd as well as Magpie Hollow Rd. Map and Google Earth follow:

Thought I might give this trip a bump.

This one is going to be a lot easier if the tyre slicks are left at home and with a bit of lift. Though honest, not as bad as the two pinch points on Baal Bone.

For those out on the Baal Bone trip, this one picks up the bottom half of the Turon to Sunny Corner trip that we missed. The loop takes us down HeartBreak Hill (aka Fluffy Bunny) which is a rocky descent with steps, some of the steps line up on both axles. So already on a steep bit, both front and rear drop at the same time. :hurt: ll in all a bit of a highlight. Then return into the forest via one of Kerry's sneaky short cuts from earlier reccie's. Sean and Daphne came through this way on that last trip. Can't promise that there won't be a tree down on those bits though.

Sean and Daphne, you might like it, picks up that trail we pointed out on Black Butt mountain. Rest of it will look familiar to you.

I'd like also to split into smaller groups (pairs maybe?) after the loop and do a bit of reccie around the forest looking for interesting bits or challenges. Any found will get added to the trip for Jamboree.

We are out of communication for a week, so hopefully we have a couple of more volunteers when we get back.

Cheers guys and seeya!

Dru 'n' Kerry.

Sounds like it would be fun, but I don't think I'd have enough clearance for it. Maybe after I get some rock rails fitted....

John, I think that's right. There a reasonable chance of scraping with trail hawk clearance and length. At the same time I thought you'd scrape coming down the rock bluff on Baal Bone and it wasn't close. Ramp over would be the thing though, not departure angle.

Apologies but I can't make this one - the new workplace is having a do for their 100th year anniversary and I've RSVPd to attend
