Dru

Where: Mount Airlie, Mugii Murum-ban, Genowlan Mesa

Detail: I'm looking for a small group of capable vehicles on this one. Kerry won't be on this trip, so we won't have our secret weapon/ace spotter. I'm hoping we won't need to do too much reconnoitre and walking. In quick, photos, home. :smile-new:

When: Saturday 2.9.17

Meet: Will's store, the general store in Capertee. They have fuel and breakfast.

Time: EARLY! 9:00am for 9:30am at Capertee

Grade: B+ It's probably one of the most challenging trips we do regularly at SJC

Requirements:

Ideally TJs and JKs, 3" lift, lockers, 35" off road tyres
Must have rock sliders, front and rear bars, front and rear recovery points, full recovery gear. There is high likelihood of winching on this trip. Radio.
Camera, lunch, water, suncream, first aid kit
Sense of enthusiasm and fun
Vehicles need to be washed and clean before you head out on Saturday morning - this is a prevention measure for possible infection to the Park of Phytophthora a natural plant pest.

This run is limited to: 6 vehicles including trip leader

Further info contact: Dru Spork M: 0419 855 121

Attending:

1. Dru JK
2. Hayesio, Jack, JKU
3.

Dave - I had thought about you. Mate I may have my brother coming. But I'll stay in touch as we get closer.

No worries, I'll get there one day. Might be easier to say 'next time' as I'll be getting a service and finishing the shopping for the big trip about then anyway.

Thanks,
Dave

Hey Jack. I have you on the list but just need to make sure. This trail is tough and does break things. It is upper end of what we do on most years, though not A grade/comp truck. I'd also add, the drive can be one of the most rewarding, and the summit is one of the most special but unknown places in Australia. :excitement:

Jack, checked back through my records, sorry buddy that I didnt recognise the name. Yes of course you are welcome, it'd be great to catch up again on the trails.

Hi Dru,
I met you on a trip to Yalwal 6 months or so back.
Mt Airlie looks like an epic trip, been on my bucket list for a while. I sore the video from last time you went out, looks fantastic. Hope I don't break anything but thats the risk I have to accept. I always carry a reasonable contingent of spares - uni's, yokes, hubs, etc.

Hahaha! Yes we remember. Let's hope we don't need to use them. :shame:

Hi Dru,

Thanks! Got a service organised for this Saturday, council elections aren't until Saturday the 9th, looks like I have a free Saturday on the 2nd so Yes Please!

I'll see you for breakfast at Capertee :)

Apart from my camera and lunch, is there anything else you would like me to bring? I could do lunch for both of us??

Thanks again,
Dave

Hi Dru,
I've been keen since you posted but unsure as my sliders won't be on by the time of the trip. I'm expecting damage and ok with that. I'm interested in your thoughts, since your aware of the track and my car.

Stuart - look, dont do this one without sliders. The sliders on my JK have made horrible noises and impacts that I thought someone had taken a can opener to the truck. On this trail. No damage (other than bashed sliders).

Suggest patience, we will run it again when you have sliders, no probs.

Hi Dru,
I am very sorry, but I am going to have to drop out of your passenger seat. My boss dropped a job on me today that must be finished before I head off to the Cape, which means this weekend [emoji20]
I am very sorry!

Great day out with Jack!

A quick run up the hill, a little time out at the step after roof rack canyon. Honest, it's worse now than it even has been. Shorty has the advantage going up, JKU I think better going down. We had time to check out:
x Genowlan Trig
x Mount Genowlan (of course!)
x Mount Airle diamond mine

And even a quick drop in on the Airlie village ruins on the way home.

Thanks Jack for giving us a great day out. :encouragement:

Jack, if you're on Facebook feel free to post on the Sydney Jeep Club page. On the forum you include a pic URL from a 3rd party hosting site. FB is easier.

Hi there ... I have been able to load photos via the Tapatalk app on my phone ... selected photos straight from the camera roll. Give that a go...

We heard goats on the top of Mount Airlie on two occasions on this trip. It's an absolute first for me, I didn't really believe that they were up on the top of the plateau. I reported it to National Parks this morning and already have a response:

Hi Drew

Thanks for the information regarding goats in the SCA. We are planning an aerial shoot in late September and have been liaising with Airly Mine who have a number of fauna monitoring cameras out at present. We’ll take into account this report, Airly’s intelligence and ensure that we cover Genowlan Point and midslopes to maximise the potential for targeting goats.

Well done NSW National Parks!

Sounds like it was a fantastic trip. I'm very sorry to have missed it, but at least I got most of the extra job done!

Next time!!! (I hope there is a next time :)

There's ALWAYS a next time, hahaha! I just hope you've cracked work and are free again to be Cape-dreaming.
