Hi All,

Because Di mentioned "Dinosaurs" in her EOI for Cape York 2021, I thought I'd better get something up to explain.

2020 has been a bit messed up trip wise, (we still don't know exactly what we will be able to do on our planned July 2020 trip). So to make up for it, a while back I started thinking about a big touring trip for 2021 - to Central Australia.
About the same time, Di started thinking about Cape York. Since I was planning to end up on the Dinosaur Trail in northern central Qld, Di thought that she could meet us there, then continue up to the Cape.

So, Trip 1 would be a 4 week trip (Sydney to Sydney) west through Tibooburra and Cameron Corner, down the Strzelecki Track to Marree, up the Oodnadatta Track to Oodnadatta, then on to Dalhousie Springs, Mt Dare, Chambers Pillar and Uluru (Ayers Rock). We would then head across to Alice Springs via Kings Canyon and the Western MacDonnell Ranges, then take the Plenty Highway to northern central QLD and spend a few days on the Dinosaur Trail - Boulia, Winton, Richmond and ending up in Hughenden. From there, I would head back to Sydney via Longreach and Charleville, making the whole trip 28 days - 28 June to 25 July Sydney to Sydney. Offroad Camper Trailers welcome!

BUT

If you wanted to, you could add on Trip 2 with Di and John - who would meet up with us on the Dinosaur Trail. When I head south from Hughenden, their trip would head north and go on to the top of Cape York. If you wanted to do both trips together, probably looking at a new total of 7 weeks! See Di's separate post http://www.sydneyjeepclub.com/showthread.php?6174-EOI-Cape-York-2021-July-August

I have got an Itinerary for Central Australia pretty much ready, and will have copies hopefully at the next actual meeting, July or August if we are lucky!

If you are interested / thinking about a big (Central Aus or Cape York) trip, or a HUGE (Both!) trip next year, let us know and we will have more details soon :)

Hope that makes sense!

Dave

Note, Red route for Central Aus and Dinosaur Trail is set, blue route is my best guess for Cape York which may meet us at Winton...

Thanks Di, think we have set up a good starting point :)

As I said, think my half of the plan is pretty ready to go. Will need to finalise some campsites and costs, but its still a year out!

I'm hoping that your plan might be to meet us at Winton on the start of the Dino Trail on 16 July - that's the day we get there from Boulia, then we have a day in town to see the sites.
From Winton we move on to Richmond and then Hughenden, both parts of the Dino Trail. My plan is to leave Hughenden heading south on 21 July. If that works for you heading north, whether via Undara Lava Tubes (392km and worth it) or straight to Cairns (590km)...

It'll be nice to discuss some of your plans in the next few months :)

Awesome, two already and it is a year out. I plan to have itineraries available from either July or August meeting - whenever we can meet at the club again, and I'll start a proper trip thread then. You guys will top the list!

Because we aren't meeting in person this month, and I was planning to bring copies of the trip proposal to this meeting, I will email out to everyone on the Interested list this evening. 7 Jeeps on that list already, probably looking at 10 to 12 max for this trip!

Sometime soon I will archive this thread and start a new one with planning for the actual trip.

Based on the plan, in one years time (1st of July), we will be in William Creek, half way up the Oodnadatta Track!
