Quick Synopsis:
We gave an extra 15 mins at Richmond for a late starter. In retrospect maybe I had the confirmation wrong. Still a little stressful leaving when I was thinking we had cut someone. And we got to ZigZag in good time.
Air down was restrained as there is a need for bitumen half way through with this route. Won't be a problem at Jambo where we would start from our second point. We headed for Lost Cities taking in a quick viewing of Ranger Bob. Lost Cities was cold and windy!
From there back up Blackfellow's Hand noting the side trips available. The drop down to the private Road, Collier Haul Road, is a nice addition to this D trip. Suggest it is used for the way out at Jambo. Bitumen up the Wolgan Rd to the head of Black Fellow's Hand.
There was a National Parks poster that had me confused. Apparently the Road to Glow Worm Tunnel was closed, 12km in at the boundary to the NP and alternates were recommended. Couldn't work out where the blockage was or what the recommended detour was either.
We decided to continue up the Hand and poke our nose into the start of Spanish Steps for lunch and a look see.
Having posted that that there really wasn't a need for recovery gear on the trip, one of the bog holes was a trap. Couldn't be avoided, we took to the edge to stay shallow. But the bog holes are a little shallower (smaller in area) so on the edge was actually close to the deep centre wheel ruts. Completely non-visible. Will got caught on the edge and slewed into the drop, off camber, exhaust under water.
I am expecting pics of the recovery with a Meme something like "Snatch Straps not Required". So far everyone has been too polite. BTW, this is my second vote of thanks to Brian and Andy and their recovery training. Thanks guys! Rob took control as recovery bloke, cheers Rob!
Rob and his nephew continue to entertain by hitting the odd bog hole. Hard.
Note to to the technical drivers. The rock surface on the "Hand" side of the steps have a greasy layer of clay smeared over them. Possibly from trucks exiting this way.
Back to the bitumen, to head up to Old Coach Rd for entry to Glow Worms. It's locked! Apparently known to everyone but myself. Damn. I've spent all night checking old trips logs, as I know we exited Glow Worms less than 12 months ago onto Wolgan Rd. I suspect now it was via Black Fellow's Hand. :hurt:
Mea Culpa. We signed off, most of the crew moving on to visit Newnes. Ritesh and Avani, and myself, headed back to be confronted by a wombat nonchalantly trotting up the road with a definite attitude of ownership. (Full daylight and that's a new experience for me!)
As mentioned on an earlier post I returned via the Hand to ZigZag. No evidence of road works which must be further over on Glow Worms itself.
Meh. My trip notes need updating.
Thanks for a lovely day out yesterday, plenty to learn about the area and we will remember those famous last words
Here a few snaps, I have loads of video that I am learning to edit and will post over next couple of days..

Looks like it was a good day - sorry I couldn't be there. (I'm sure the Trailhawk would have made it through [emoji2]).
