My CJ6 Project
-
A busy weekend wrenching in the driveway for Colin, Wolfe & myself - with a helping hand from ACJ & AussieCJ7 (thanks guys).
Sight milestone - Breifly got the engine beween the frame rails
Unfortunately had to pull it out again shortly afterwards to continue making the shackle mounts - but felt good to see the engine & diff clearance were ok. More updates later I guess ;D

About time we got to at least see these under a frame, should be good when there's some more :) Any expected deadline?
Cheers

Nearly finished the shackle/leaf hangers. Should have them welded into place and the leafs in-place by the end of the weekend......IF all goes to plan (rarely happens).
REALLY want to have it finished LONG before the Jamboree - but much work to be done. At this stage target is end of June.
-
NEARLY fonoshed the hangers over the weekend - just a few more braces to get burnt into place :)
Then I'll snap a fresh pic.
BTW foranyone interested in the full writeup I am doing - I have it Here on our website.
-
Looking good :) Looks like you're getting a lot of welding practice too.
Cheers

The frame is now nearly twice the original weight - don't want to know how much of that is welding wire ;)
My welding isn't the worlds prettiest - but it should hold together :)
-
Just a few more welds and I can start painting the chassis.
A quick pic of my BootFabed spring hangers

Inital plan was to fit an XJ engine/transmisson/transfer case. But due to the other plans I later changed my mind about this.
The basic plan (as of Nov2013) is:
- AMC 360 + T18 transmission + NP208 transfer case.
- Diffs would be the 404 Unimog diffs I've been hording for sometime. Still shopping for extra brake components and really need to be stripped down & referbished.
- Tyres - 40x13.5R17
- Wheels - 17x9 Internal (mechanical) bead locked. 6x205mm Bolt pattern with 6" Backspace. Custom made by Staworks in the US. Basically these are as close to factory spec as I could get.
- Seating - MasterCraft F&R
- Rollcage - got some good plans (I think). A MUST in the build plan but a fair way down the plan schedule.
- Roof / Doors - Have Stock CJ6 Hardtop & doors - will probably keep them, but generally I want to run roofless (obviously).

I will really enjoy watching this build... Wow..... will look awesome.
-
Sadly it will be a slow build.
There are a few things in front of it.

How long will it take to finish it?

Lets see its taken 4 years to get to this point.
I'd guess it'll be about another 4? Problem is I have some other big projects in the pipeline and precious little time. Also its at home and most tools are now at work.
So if if finish it in the next few years ill be happy.
