Remote for 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.

I have just bought a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I am having a few problems with the remote. If I leave the car locked for more than a few minutes then either the remote wont work to unlock the car or it takes a lot of presses on the unlock button to get it to open. The used car dealer is telling me that this is normal as the remote central locking goes into sleep mode. Sounds like crap to me. Can anyone tell me if this is right? I cant see the point of having a remote if you have to use the key to open the door and wake up the system and then use the remote to unlock the immobiliser. HELP!

PS - sounds like a crock to me. Have you spoken with a real Jeep dealer's service manager?
