    Default Handheld VHF

    Hi,

What would be a good handheld VHF radio that can also be used for bushwalks? Been told that ICOM is pretty good, but how about Uniden and GME?

Any thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated before I give the credit card a workout..

Do you mean VHF or UHF which is Waaaaaaaaay more common these days!

I have an ICOM IC 41S which is excellent! 5watt, water resistant, good battery life, accesses repeaters, has low and high power selection and what is even better, the antenna screws off and you can attach it to your fixed UHF antenna on your vehicle. It is my main radio for all uses! (Car charger works fast and well!)

    Hope this helps.
    Dave.

my uniden 1 watters are pretty good for the bush walk and car-to-car thing but are very terrain dependant. got the twin pack with desktop charger. depends on your budget as well. if i could go back in time i wouldve tried the setup dave mentioned.
