Default Help with sorting out JK CRD Rear Diff Cover Damage

My son has a JK CRD with a now dented rear diff cover. He is worried about driving it a couple hundred kilometres (in central QLD) to the nearest Jeep dealer to get it fixed. There is no apparent leaking nor grinding from inside. Is it safe to drive or should he pull the cover off and bang out the dent? Can these things have dents banged out or do they need to be replaced?

If it's not contacting the carrier it should be ok, but I dare say that by the time he pays for a new cover from Jeep (which he'll probably dent again anyway!) he may as well get an aftermarket cover like the Solid brand from Wooders!
