SJC member Phil Reid has been up there many times with his modified Hilux and he knows Col fairly well through the Wollongong club's use of the tracks. Speaking to him yesterday he recommended taking the time to do the walk at the top (there is a locked gate up there to protect the rare plants apparently). According to Phil, Col took the NSW Parks to court to keep the track open (they wanted to lock it off at the bottom).

Just an update on the trip...
Had a brief talk with Col on Tuesday and the track is open, no problems. There hasn't been significant rainfall to degrade the track so that should be OK. He was kinda apologetic that he hadn't maintained the track of late and it was pretty rough... mmm, i was really upset to hear that.
If anybody is dropping out, post up so we can let the reserves have a chance.
I was thinking of a Plan 'B" - if the weather does turn bad - (you dont really want to drive Mt Airlie in torrential rain, trust me) we could do the Sunny Corner Track, which has one optional steep rutted out hill climb.
