Default Buying a '97 XJ; what to look out for?

Hey guys! Have posted this question on the Ausjeep forum as well so apologies for the cut 'n paste job if you've already seen & replied to it. Just figured that since a few of you SJC members have killer XJs that you've modded from the ground up, you'd have some expert input. Some of the responses I've recieved so far mention electrical issues unique to the '97 as it was an update/crossover model & got different electrics or something? Anyway:

JK driver here; know nothing about XJs so looking for your advice.

My mate up on the Central Coast is looking for a used 4x4 in the sub $7K price range; so he's found a '97 Cherokee for $5K ono with 140K km on it in "mint original condition" (the pics show it with stock wheels & tyres, bumper & factory chrome nudge-bar). I'm heading up there in a few days to have a look at it with him.

So what should I be looking out for, as in XJ-specific? I know about all the general stuff to look out for on used 4WDs as an indicator of offroad abuse (dented/scraped skids, worn unis/CVs, etc). Thanks in advance!

    Cheers! Phil.
