    Default 2'' or 4'' Lift Kit ?

    i have not long purchased a 97 TJ

    I have been looking into doing a lift in my 97 TJ. I am unsure of weather i should go 2 or 4inch lift

    When i speck to the shops they just suggest the brand they stock i.e. OME or Ranchos.

    what are people using and what issues have you had ?

    If you are lifting your rig more than 2" and going bigger than 31" rubber then there are quite a few things to take into consideration. For example, beyond say a 2" lift your rear tail shaft will be in danger of dropping out of the transfer case. You may have seen the term SYE or slip yoke eliminator which is an engineering solution to this issue. Do a search on the AusJeep forum or speak to a specialist jeep supplier such as Wooders for more detailed options.

    I am leaning towards a 2 inch lift kit with Ranchos RS9000XL shocks, and then 31" tyres will give me a little more lift

    i am also thinking a 1" body lift as well, would i need to do an engine lift with the body lift?

    hey steven...... firstly, what do you intend to do with the car?

    what size tires? what sort of driving etc?

    there is a big difference between a 2 inch and 4 inch lift...... with 31's i dont think you need a body lift....

    if you go for somthign bigger 33's and up, you could look at teh rubicon express kit from wooders... a really good bang for your buck kit.... but like DK said you will need to go for a SYE kit......

    with shocks it comes down to personal preference.... what one person may find a great ride, you may hate......

    As I have only just got the jeep i would like to go on some C - C+ grade tips first then once i get more confident with the vehicle and advance my technical ability i would go to b grade trips

    I believe i would just put a transfer case spacer in for now with a 2.5" lift kit and then remove the spacers and put a SYE in at a later stage

    Yeah that's an option too. However IMO I wouldn't run a spacer to long. You lose clearance which you just payed money to gain...

    after looking into the SYE its another $1000 - $1600 + install on top of the lift. the spacers would only be in there until i can afford the SYE
