Thread: Global Jamboree

    Default Global Jamboree

Leo Muller Group are behind a new organization called ‘Global Jamboree’
    From their website http://www.globaljamboree.com.au/about/
Wholly owned by the Leo Muller Group, ‘Global Jamboree’ encompasses 4WD driver training, vehicle familiarisation, escorted adventures, advice, education and the opportunity to network with like-minded enthusiasts.

What do you think? Will you get behind this? Is this the end of club organized Jamboree events?
Is this the end of civilization as we know it?

    My main concern:
"Any 4wd vehicle with a 4-LO transfer case can participate"

Well they have been involved in Jambo in the past and were a big part of the 2008 event. The escorted adventures is somethng I think might be a good idea, if its Jeep tagalongs which I see a need for. Many people don't belong to clubs for various reasons and this would be a good way for them to go touring or whatever in a group.

Of course, Leo Muller are a business (for Profit Business) so there has to be something in this for them if they are going to spend money (or time) on it. However, all tagalong operators charge significant fees for their tours so I don't have a problem with what they are trying to do.

Whilst in Moab, I spoke to Shawn, the bloke running JJ there and he's been invited to the Frazer Island trip in July to help run it. Apparently Global wanted to use the Jeep Jamboree but was refused by Jeep Aust.

I do hope that it will not be the end of Jeep Jamboree as we know it but instead enhances the experience and opening up more available events in Aust generally and Qld specifically. Joys of the unknown.

Interesting, but of course we need more information. If they organise Jambos then at least there will be Jambos organised. $90 for the now closed Killarney weekend is pretty reasonable for a three day outing - but it is nothing like what SJC organised in 2012, no site, facilities, sponsors/stalls etc etc, "just" a 3 day driving tour. Would this attract people from all over? Would this take away the option of organising Jambos - or possibly the desire for Jeepers Australia wide to come to a club organised event? Dunno!

If they organise Tag Along type tours, I'd be all for it, but I'd like to know costs! For example, a well known Tag Along Operator from NSW is charging $3700 per vehicle Cairns to Cairns for a tour of Cape York. Is that a reasonable cost before food, fuel, vehicle prep? For some, yes! I have paid for tours before. If they could undercut this... As Glen said a commercial operator has huge overheads on commercial access and insurance. For many, to double the cost of a 'free' club tour to a similar destination might be a little steep.

    Need more info!

But will it mean an end to jambo as we know it? That is my concern.

I Really Hope NOT! They really sound more like a Tag Along Operator. Re-reading the Killarney "Jambo" they are running, its a tag along like our club trips - so they are just offering the 'trip' component of a Jambo. It wouldn't attract interstaters, and I doubt they could handle more than about 20 vehicles - going on their description. They are not offering a Jambo as we know it.

So hopefully they won't offer so many things in so many places that clubs will lose interest in coming together for a real Jambo!

    Aaargh!

I think the only way jambo will die is if
Clubs don't step up to run them
But what has to remembered is that
You don't have to be bigger and better
    Than the previous one
Look at the morisett jambo small but really well done and done in a short amount of time
But it all comes down to clubs stepping up and doing it for the love of Jeeping
Not looking just to make $$$ from them

    Just my 2 cents

In my little experience, our "National" Jamboree was a lot more fun with more families participating. However that required a lot more work and commitment from the club running it and bravo to SJC and everyone who helped run it. You guys did great!

Going JJ USA style means a few smaller Jambos in each state over a weekend say. The strength there is it would be easier for clubs to step up as it's a lot smaller: 40-50 Jeeps/Jambo as oppose to 300-400. People can then opt to choose motels (less room requirement) and can pick and choose which Jambo/s to go to without carrying all the camping gear. The flavour would be different no doubt but provides more opportunity for people to attend the Jambo of their choosing.

Syl and I prefer the former a LOT.. and will be there to help out if SJC were to run a Jambo again.

    P/S: Guys= Guys & Gals.

Sounds to me like a "for profit business" as stated by glend, trying to cash in on what has previously been a very popular and potentialy profitable concept, by tempting us with a familiar "catch-word" JAMBOREE (quite a sly move)

    My 2cents worth!!
