Hey guys. My brother would like to do a 4wd camp with his two girls and my sister and law. He doesn't have a rig.

Is is there somewhere you can hire a JKU in Sydney that allows trails?

I don't think so - i know even in the NT they had them for rent and you could not go on dirt with them.
I think Sargents hire 4wd and allow you to take them off road with prior agreement

Same in Qld, they take the front drive shaft out.

one option would be to camp out Newnes ruins way as 2wd access (except if you cross the river) you can also access black fellows hand cave in 2wd with car - on the other side of black fellows hand is the entrance to Gardens of Stone so you park their car at the bottom and show them the first hill climb if you wanted to do 4wding.

Dru, just some advice - you're probably aware of this but if your brother is going to rent anythig for offroading, ask about the insurance policy, any limitations, cost, read all fine print, etc. There are some shocking insurance excesses to be paid when you take something offroad and damage something. As Hunno mentioned above, many rental places take the front shaft out to actually prevent offorading...
