Nah I like my 2 wheel drive only option. Found a rear transfer case cover from Morris 4x4 for $159 U.S. Then there is postage on top of that. Might contact the Jeep stealership for a bit of a laugh to see how much they would want for the same part. They've suprised me before.

UPDATE. The epoxy on the transfer case is holding up a lot better than I expected, but I ordered a new rear case from Morris 4x4 in the states. $280 AU delivered to my door, I thought was pretty good. Rang a mob in W.A and they quoted me $396 + gst and the dealership was $427 which I thought was pretty good as it also came with an output shaft and fill and drain plug, but was a special order from the US and would take 3 - 4 weeks to arrive.
Gave the engine an oil system flush yesterday before changing the oil and replaced the oil filter and air filter (the old air filter looked like it had been under water), and used a can of Subaru intake cleaner down the throttle body. It's amazing what a differance just doing that made to the performance of the car, but it sooo needs a gearing change. With the 33" tyres it's a bit of a toss up between 4.11's or 4.56 when I finally get around to doing it.
Adjusted the rear brakes, so the handbrake is now working again, and chased down and fixed a water leak into the passenger side floor.
I'm starting to get it to a state of repair this old mechanic with a touch of OCD is actually happy with. In the next couple of weeks I want to flush out the brake fluid, clutch fluid, coolant and all the other oils and replace the plugs. Then I can start looking towards doing the gearing.
Only thing that's bothering me now is the numbers on the knob on the gearshift are not straight, and I can't seem to budge the knob to straighten it lol. Stupid problem I know, but OCD lol

Well it's been a while, but I just decided to fit a mega short SYE from Teraflex to the Jeep. Am currently waiting on a custom Tailshaft to come from the US to complete the installation.
I decided it needed to be done before the regearing as I had a driveline vibration I thought was a bent tailshaft. After I checked the tailshaft with a straight edge, I discovered the vibration was actually caused by a bent output shaft. All I have to do now is find a way to recalibrate my speedo again.

I'm a bit slow to update, but finally got the tailshaft around 3 weeks ago. I'm pretty happy with it. All the driveline vibrations are gone. It's not quite as comfortable as my old Grand was, but it's a totally differant car to drive now :-)

    Looks great Elio.

Have you calibrated the speedo yet?
Was shipping from the USA reasonable and which company did you use?

    thanks

Adam's driveshafts from the US supplied the mega short kit and built the driveshaft for me. It's been a few months now and still driving great. Couldn't be happier. The kit was around $700 at the time, but our dollar was a bit better than it is now. I bought an electronic speedo adjuster from ebay from a hot rod supplier in Melbourne and fitted it under the dash. Was super easy to recalibrate speedo and have set it a little over so it reads 110km/h when I'm actually doing 105km/h. That way I have no excuse for speeding tickets lol

Hi Belinda, it was something like the link below, but mine must be an older version. I don't remember paying that much for it. I'm pretty sure it was about $125 at the time. It was off this seller too.

Had a busy last few weeks with the addition of the new rear bar, relocating the number plate, the snorkel and now, my new rear seat just came in from the US. After a recent road trip taking the scenic route to Woolongong and back, my 8 year old daughter ended up in tears because the standard rear seat sans head rest is just so uncomfortable in the rear of the TJ's. Started researching and found Bestop make an aftermarket seat with headrests in them to suit the TJ. Thought freight was going to be the killer having it shipped all the way from the US given it's size and it weighs approx 20kg, but then I lucked across a supplier on ebay in the US that not only had them on special, but they shipped it out to me using the ebay global shipping program, so it only cost me around $80 AUS in shipping. Got here in less than a week. Was super super impressed. Anyway, I hope my daughter finds this a little more comfortable.
