Default Noisy Lifters on a 4.0L inline 6

    Hi Guys,

Wheeling on the weekend I started getting a ticking sound under acceleration coming from the Engine.
I check with my mechanic and he is confident its a sticky lifter and nothing really sinister. The engine runs well, doesn't smoke, doesn't use engine oil, but is clicking away loudly .. sounds like just the one lifter stuck.
Engine is the 4.0L inline 6 which is found in the TJ YJ XJ ZJ's up to 2007.
    has ~350k on the clock..

Ive just added some sticky lifter cleaner .. I need to drive for 500km and then dump the oil.. hopefully this Will work

Has anyone else had a similar issue with stick Lifter?

Don't want to alarm you but Greg had an issue with a stuck lifter in his TJ and it wore down the lobe on the camshaft and needed a new cam because of the damage. Not sure what the symptoms were though so maybe he'll see this and comment.

    Cheers

Could also be a cracked piston sleeve.... Had the same on two TJ's.... The problem can not be correctly diagnosed until the engine is actually pulled down...... I just bit the bullet and replaced the engine in both..... One second hand the other I got a fully reco'ed motor when I replaced them................

    Jose,

I first noticed this as a loss of power, occasionally, then every time I was going up a big hill. I should have addressed it straight away, but I left it too long to be checked. I didn't really notice a specific noise from the engine, until it lost power.

    Good luck.

    Greg
