    Hello Club Members

    I found myself thinking tonight about all the quirky Jeep knowledge I have acquired over the last year. For instance,

    The centre of a dana 30 diff from a JK, can not be used in a TJ dana 30 because the diff centres rotate in opposite directions. We wanted to use the JK centre for an auto (lunchbox) locker in a TJ, because the auto lockers dont fit into the centre housing of a TJ limited slip dana 30. Turns out it cant be done.

    A ZJ pitman arm on a TJ prevents a crushed steering dampner

    Never buy cheap after market jeep sensors, you will just be wasting your time as they seldom work properly.

    Mud and a JK radiator are not a good combination, took the brother in law an hour with a hose to get enough mud out to drive home.

    Adjusting rear uper control arms is more about listening than seeing.

    Jeep handbreaks are not trustworthy. Dont trust them.

    A clock spring is easy to break and expensive to replace, who needs a horn anyway.

    And thats just after 1 year.

    What quirky Jeep knowledge has everyone else acquired?

    Could i correct a few things from my quirky knowledge [emoji6]?
    All front diff centres turn the same direction. I suspect you've gotten confused with the reference to reverse rotation - which is all front diffs. The difference in the gears is the JK is high pinion and the TJ low pinion so the gear is reverse cut.
    However the carrier/hemisphere are interchangeable. Likewise the lunchbox locker is interchangeable between tge 2 D30s.
    But neither D30 is LSD.
    Rear D44 is another whole duscussion.
    Careful interchanging pitman arms - very easy to upset the alignment between tge draglink and panhard which can result in bumpsteer.

    I am very much an amature with only 12 months worth of information from others. So thank you for contributing to my post and furthering my quirky Jeep knowledge.

    I've learned that if you're regearing a TJ you need a different carrier for the rear if you go above 3.92 unless you purchase thick cut gears. I also learned that the carrier for 3.92 and up is bloody hard to get in Aus which is why my rear diff now runs an e-locker. Also going back a few years I also learned I shouldn't of bought an aftermarket timing chain kit for the 4.7 litre V8 WG Grand Cherokee. Nothing lined up the way it should, and it took a lot of stress and about 3 weeks on my days off to actually get it running right again.

    Dana 30 carrier supports
    2.88-3.54 or 3.73-5.13
    AFAIK there are no thick cut D30 gears

    Dana 44 carrier supports
    2.88-3.73 or 3.92-5.38
    Thick cut gears are available.

    Yes I know this now lol. I knew about the front, but had no idea the back until I spent a day lying on my back in the driveway in the pouring rain trying to set up a diff with the wrong carrier in it. By the end of the day I said screw this and sent it off to a diff specialist lol
