Default Max Legal Lift On Jeep Wrangler JK Before Requiring Engineering

    Hi everyone,

Two months ago i purchased a 2008 Wrangler JK Unlimited Diesel with a damaged engine. I got it for $7000 and need to spend about $5000 to get it working, so well worth it in my opinion.
Upon completion of the repair i hope to get it ready for offroad use and then join the club. I have already done some research about the laws around lift kits and putting larger tyres on vehicles but can't actually find a definitive answer.

Does anyone know what size tyre and lift i can put on the car. It came with no lift and 31" all terrain tyres.
I was hoping to put 33" mud tyres and a 2" lift. Can i do this without getting the car engineered?

    Regards
    Curtis

2" lift and 285/70/17 (basically a 33") are legal, or so close to it that you won't have any issues and you would probably not find anyone engineered with this combination.

    Thanks for the advice,

I did some searching for tyres of that spec and found these two

Would they be good for moderate use during the week and then C or B grade tracks on the weekend?

Just about every off road tyre comes in 285/70r17, take your pick!

Should add make sure you have 17" wheels, could possibly be 16".
