    Default Intermittent power loss

    Hi Guys,
Im finally starting to run into problems with my beloved 96 TJ Wrangler (probably due to neglect).

In the past 200kms I have replaced a clutch, battery and some leads. Now the thing is intermittently losing power. Out of gear it will rev fine (idles very strange) but as soon as you try to take off the car almost stall.

Leads, plugs have been check and replaced but still the problem comes up.

Any ideas and help would be much appreciated?

    R,

Could be a number of things, pick one from this list:

    - Blocked air filter
    - Clogged injectors
    - Stuffed ECU
    - Flat battery
    - blocked exhaust (squashed from offroading perhaps)
    - In need of a new distributor cap

You said you replaced high tension leads and spark plugs so probably not a problem there, unless you replaced with the wrong type of spark plug.

If you can't work it out, take it to a mechanic. Preferably one that specialises in Jeeps, as they tend to be a bit weird sometimes.

Another thing it could be is the fuel pump, two vehicles I know (including mine) had similar symptoms to those and it was a faulty fuel pump.

It's a 96 model - so start by running the error codes.

This site has nice clear instructions and gives a summary of the results:

run this & lettuce know how you went
