Actually I do have one other thing running off it which I better check, it's a vacuum packer and sealer. I'll buy my meat in Cairns and split it into packages and then vacuum seal them and chuck them in the fridge, I've done this before and it pretty much triples the length it'll last. Also means any leftover stuff at dinner like cheese and salad etc will get vacuum packed ready for the next night (or whenever) nothing worse than wet food/packaging in the fridge after a few days on the road.

Noice plan Maaaate - I took a huge handfull of sm@rtr@ss pills before starting work this arvo - I wired my solenoid - ( it links my 2 batteries and enables the Jeep to charge the Aux battery whilst driving) through my Wiredswitch pannel and programmed it to be dependant on the ignition being on, it will also not allow the solenoid to be switched on manually if the main start battery is less than 11.5v - If I ever need to start my Jeep from the Aux battrery it is a simple reprogram of the ecu - just 2 button pushes - or I can just go under the bonnet and bridge out the solenoid - so if all goes well then the jeep is running it is charging the AUX battery and when I turn off the Jeep and am camping the AUX will be on its own!

Vacuum packers are small these days and less than $50, it sounds ridiculous to take camping but it makes a huge difference, not only to the space required in the fridge and the longevity of the food but you dont have to worry about leaking meat juice and things like that, when I did my last long trip (a month in the flinders) the fridge was pretty nasty down the bottom at the end and there was always one or two meat packages in those bulky trays with not much more than glad wrap on the top that go pierced. Before this I got the butcher to cryovac the meat but this works better as now I can do leftovers and veg etc as well

Getting off topic but mines the same as this (who uploads video of them vacuum packing salami!!!)

    I like IT!
does it cost much to run? - as in the cost of the plastic you feed it with ?

You can buy the bag material on rolls, I've got a bid on 8 rolls at the moment (one sale) for 40ish I think, thats 48m of the stuff I think. It's a tube and you cut the length you want then seal one end, fill it and vacuum and seal the other. You can also reuse the bags (maybe not the best with raw meat but fine with other foods), so cut it open just below the seal, eat (wash the bag out) fill it up again with leftovers and reseal what is now a slightly smaller bag.

Smile Jeep JK 2 dr Water storage solution

More prep for the Sydney Jeep Club trip to the Cape.

My Jeep JK will have 2 occupants - Jax (My beautiful wife) and myself!
I need to carry at least 20L of reserve water for cooking and drinking etc aside from my main 20L of drinking water in the back on top of my drawers and the 2X 1.5L bottles in the front of the cab to drink on route.

I am looking for advice / comment re my plans to put 25L on the roof bars

My Plan so far is to put 3meters of 100mm pipe (+ threaded end cap) up on my roof bars with a locking tap on the back end and a manually openable valve at the top on the front (to let the air out when I fill up) I expect to get approx 25 Litres of storage.

I realise I am adding another 25+Kg's to the top of my Jeep and that when the tank is half full I will have 12+kgs of "slide Hammer" LoL

    Q. Has anyone got any recommendations / cautions / advice before I fab up some brackets & weld em on?

Thanx guys in advance for any info / advice you might give!
    cheers Hunty

See if you can find some open cell foam made of a stable (potable water safe) plastic to stuff in the pipe to act as a baffle to stop the water moving around so much....
